Stress is a normal part of every human’s existence. It happens to anybody, and no one is spared. Your boss might be demanding too much, someone in the family might be ill, or date must’ve gone wrong. Generally, though, these circumstances are temporary. You recover and go on as usual until another stressor comes along. But when you cannot get over them, trapping you in a constant state of stress, as a result of which, you feel an immediate sense of catastrophe that doesn’t seem to go away, you probably are suffering from chronic anxiety. As such, there is a need for you to undergo some interventions.
One form of intervention that is currently being increasingly practiced is the supplementation of cannabidiol or CBD oil. Numerous researches are done to indicate that CBD oil for anxiety shows excellent promise in the successful therapy of some mental health disorders.
Statistics show that 20 percent of Americans manifest symptoms of an anxiety disorder e.g., unreasonable or exaggerated feelings of fear and imminent danger, palpitations, cold, clammy skin, and profuse sweating, at least once in their lifetime.
This is due to the causative factors that usually work in combination:
- Genetics – a strong family history of mental health issues puts an individual at higher risk
- Environmental and lifestyle stressors that are constant and sustained.
Physiological speaking, abnormally high levels of the stress hormone called cortisol, which is triggered by the individual’s continuous state of stress, eventually lead to the development of chronic anxiety, clinical depression, and a host of physical maladies manifested by heart problems, gastrointestinal issues, and others.
Since the cannabis or marijuana plant yields good feedback in the treatment of chronic anxiety, more extensive studies are being conducted to isolate CBD. It is responsible for the therapeutic aspects of cannabis from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which also has excellent potential for treatment, but with the feeling “high” effects are being devised.
Current studies on CBD suggest that its anti-anxiety action is secondary to the stimulation of the neurotransmitter serotonin (the happy hormone). Its ability to boost intrinsic endocannabinoid production and neural (nerve and brain matter) regeneration, thus counteracting the chronic damage stress creates in your brain. These studies warrant more intensive follow-ups to be able to maximize the full potential and benefits that CBD oil can offer to the field of mental health.
CBD works best as a supplement to a holistic and comprehensive anxiety therapeutic plan. It is advisable to confer with your primary physician to ensure that there will be no drug interactions in case you are under maintenance medications.
